I don’t use Nunchucks but here are my favorite tools to keep my mind empty

With the deluge of stuff coming at us every minute, we need external tools to ensure our brain remains free of clutter.

Free to do what it does best - Think, imagine and create.

“Empty your mind. Be formless, shapeless, like water…” - Bruce Lee

Here are some of my favorite tools which help me do that –

  • Task Manager – Amazing Marvin (amazingmarvin.com)

I use Amazing Marvin as my task manager. I love that it customizes to my preferred workflow and methods. Marvin is much more than just a task manager.

  • Reference or Notes – Evernote.com

Evernote is where all my notes, highlights, and important reference material stay. This is the external brain that David Allen talks about in his book Getting Things Done (GTD).

  • Calendar – Google calendar

I keep only my appointments and reminders here. I don’t try to schedule my day plan in the calendar.

  • Voice capture – Otter.ai

I use Otter mainly for capturing conversations, quick voice notes, and clarifying my thoughts aloud. Many of my writing drafts start in Otter.

  • Read later – Instapaper.com

Delaying content consumption has huge payoffs. Anytime I come across something interesting, I send it to Instapaper to consume it later. Instapaper has a distraction-free interface and allows highlights and notes while reading.

  • Readwise.io

Readwise pulls in my highlights from a variety of sources - Twitter, Kindle, Instapaper, etc and sends it to my external brain – Evernote. It helps me leverage what I consume through regularly surfacing my highlights and notes.

“Your mind is for having ideas, not holding them.” ― David Allen
